MSI MPG 491CQPX, QD-OLED Writ Large

Published:

49″ Of 32:9 QD-OLED Real Estate

If you are on the search for a huge gaming display with a 5120 x 1440 and a peak 240Hz refresh rate with a lower MSRP than the Samsung OLED G9 tends to sell for the MSI MPG 491CQPX is worth a look.  It sports the same 1800R curvature, VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 but should actually be brighter than the Samsung monitor.  The forked stand on the MPG 491CQPX may disappoint some potential buyers, however a decent monitor arm will resolve that complaint completely.

You will get comprehensive connectivity, HDMI 2.1 port, DP 1.4a, and Type-C with a peak 98W power delivery as well as a pair of USB 2.0 Type-A ports, with USB 2.0 Type-B upstream.  The MPG 491CQPX does a much better job at getting rid of the text fringing common with previous generations of OLEDs, but if you intend to primarily use it as a workstation you will still notice it is not yet perfect.

The biggest problem with the MPG 491CQPX is the same as any other 32:9 display, many games simply don’t support that aspect ratio or do a horrible job of stretching the picture out that far so keep this in mind while reading TweakTown’s review.
